Position Summary

The Tax Director directs and oversees Remington's tax policies and objectives.  The individual is responsible and accountable for coordinating and managing Remington's compliance in all tax areas, including federal, state, local and franchise tax; intangible and tangible personal property tax; unclaimed property; sales/use tax; government information reporting and federal excise tax reporting through the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintains tax policies, procedures and controls to protect assets and comply with tax laws
  • Monitors reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes
  • Ensures accuracy of tax forms
  • Responsible for dealing with tax accounting, tax compliance and tax risk management
  • Responsible for planning and implementing tax strategies to minimize the company's federal, state and local taxes
  • Serves as expert in tax issues that relate to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures or other business transactions
  • Directs and monitors all federal, state, and local tax audit activities to defend Remington's tax position
  • Serves as the point of contact for external business partners and tax advisors
  • Determines tax compliance responsibilities and coordinates and manages these responsibilities


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises Tax Accountants
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four year college or university in Accounting, Finance or a related field; Masters or CPA preferred
  • 8-10 years of progressive, professional tax experience or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience


Language Skills:

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from federal and state agencies; senior management and other corporate personnel; and vendors


Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations


Reasoning Skills:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables


Computer Skills:

  • Outstanding PC skills in a Microsoft environment, including spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation capabilities
  • Should have knowledge of SAP Accounting software
