Position Summary

Primary function is to utilize corporate CAD system resources (SolidWorks) to create Models, Assemblies, Parts, and detail Drawings per ROC CAD specifications and standards.  Must be able to quickly and efficiently utilize SolidWorks to perform a range of duties including assisting engineers with detail drawing updates and revisions, checking drawings, and creating drawing packages containing assemblies of high precision components.  Will be required to dimension prints to GD&T standards defined by engineering. Must be familiar with Solidworks PDM file management tools, vault usage, file states, and PDM Workflows. Two-year technical degree preferred, experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD system is REQUIRED.  A hands-on SolidWorks test will be part of the interview process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of CAD detailing operations, techniques and processes. Capable of taking the next logical step without supervision.  Competent with generating and presenting data in an easy to understand format.  Competent in managing and coordinating CAD modelling project or series of tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Tool Usage: Performs basic tasks with standard tools and training provided by ROC; open to being trained on new methods. Use of CAD systems for models and drawings, including CMM balloon callouts, understanding and placement of title blocks, Rev blocks, and other drawing formatting.  Capable of mastering multiple tools, set-ups, methods including associated software evaluations.  Must be able to pull historical revisions when requested from PDM database.
  • Indicators: Able to maintain safe working environment, follow all rules and guidelines, careful with data recording.   Able to follow 5S (Safety, housekeeping) guidelines.
  • Scope of Responsibility: Performs CAD drawing creation and modifications; supports operation of CAD software, new feature implementation, pilot projects. Timescales are typically daily rather than weekly.   Work is often subject to established routines.  Errors can cause significant delays and rework over several products and projects.
  • Leadership: Has strong work ethic, respects time of others, prompt, role model for safe working conditions and maintains a clean workplace. Looks for ways to continuously improve tools and processes within his/her responsibility.  Must be able to work with confidential information, including future and historical product data.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Capable of maintaining detailed records in written form or databases.  Engages in oral and written knowledge transfer when required; technical reports and findings.  Observant and capable of communicating unusual observations (good and bad) to program managers and engineers.
  • Behaviors: Completes tasks on time with high quality. Can be depended on to participate on teams and deliver results.  Demonstrates ability to lead by example and teach methods to newer technicians.  Extremely dependable in delivering what is promised. 
  • Level of Review: May have little day-to-day supervision. Tasks are reviewed daily or at project milestones as needed by engineering/manufacturing.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with SolidWorks preferred, will consider other 3D CAD system experience. Two-year technical degree required.  Hands-on SolidWorks testing will be a part of the interview process.  Firearms and ammunition experience a plus.


Language Skills                                                              

Ability to read work and interpret instructions in English.  Ability to record observations and keep records of data as instructed.


Mathematical Skills                                                                     

Ability to perform general mathematical operations and simple data manipulations as instructed. Must be able to read engineering prints, read and understand GD&T, and be able to properly layout and dimension detailed drawings.


Other Skills and Abilities 

3D CAD experience required and proficiency with SolidWorks will be given preference, however other 3D CAD system experience may be considered.  Proficient with Microsoft Office (office365) suite necessary. Basic MS Windows, network, and file system knowledge is required.
