Position Summary

General Summary:


Ensure that assigned Ranges are operating in accordance with company policies and procedures before, during and after live firing.

Primary Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions)

  • Assist management in the development of range operating procedures
  • Ensure that the assigned ranges are operated in accordance with defined operation procedures
  • Ensure range safety for all customers, employees and visitors
  • Assist customers, employees and visitors are assigned to appropriate ranges to accommodate the type of firearm/caliber and test procedures being requested.
  • Assist customers, employees and visitors with basic firearm handling techniques
  • Maintains cleanliness of the shooting range
  • Work with management and maintenance staff to ensure the filtration, bullet trap, and target retrieval systems are properly maintained
  • Provide instruction to those approved to enter the ranges, other range instructors, and range safety officers to ensure a safe and professional shooting process
  • Ensure safety on the range by observing all users and immediately ceasing any behavior that could be considered unsafe
  • Assist in daily range start up and shut down
  • Stay current on product knowledge, general firearms laws and safety procedures
  • Promotes adherence to work practices that prevents employee over exposure to lead dust
  • Arranges for the disposal or recycle of lead, brass and other waste streams generated by the gallery
  • Travels to other locations as needed to audit range safety and complete training.
  • Know and follow emergency response plans when required.

Skills and Education Required

Qualifications, Educational skills and experience

  • Prefer BS Degree in Safety, Management or related field.
  • Manufacturing experience desired
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.  Ability to speak in front of large groups. 
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Law enforcement, military, security officer, or shooting range experience is preferred
  • Range safety officer certification from an accredited organization such as NRA is preferred

  • Self-motivated & exceptional organizational skills.
  • Great Customer Service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Must be alert, sharp, decisive, tactful, and good with confrontation
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others.
  • Trouble shooting, safety oriented and reasoning skills
  • Computer skills

Work Environment

  • Moderate to fast pace work environment
  • Work around moving machinery and firearms
  • Exposure to dust, fumes and chemicals

Physical Demands

  • Must be capable of working different and extended schedules.
  • Capable of standing or walking for seven hours a day.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, carry or lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Visual acuity correct to perform job functions.
  • Ability to hear to respond appropriately to facility commands
