Position Summary

Position Summary:


This role assists the Director, Defense Programs in managing existing and future US and International defense programs. The ideal candidate will have basic government contracts and program management experience, demonstrate a history of meeting cost, schedule, and performance objectives, and understand how to develop and maintain positive, long term government customer relationships. This individual will train to work as a Proposal Manager or Volume Lead on small to medium scope proposal efforts and will be expected to travel to defense trade shows, lead internal and government client IPTs, support new product concept development, and drive revenue and margin by maintaining a business development mind set.


Primary Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist and support the Director, Defense Programs, to effectively manage US and international government program execution to meet Remington and government client objectives.
  • Work with the Manager, Government Contracts to ensure execution of contractual responsibilities and maintain compliance with US and International contract requirements.
  • Lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) with internal Remington staff and government clients as required.
  • Support Product Management and Research and Development processes with New Product Concept Definition and Voice of the Customer.
  • Coordinate and lead cross functional meetings involving Plant Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Compliance, and Legal departments to ensure Remington meets contractual, programmatic, and business goals.
  • Assist in preparing proposals and occasional business development presentations.
  • Participate in planning processes and attend regional and national defense trade shows.
  • Maintain awareness of business competitive landscape as well as status of government customer requirements to support pursuit of new business opportunities.
  • Maintain flexibility to respond to all assignments called for by the Division Director.

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
  • 2-4 years Defense or Federal Agency Program or Contracts Management experience
  • Experience handling modern firearms and ammunition.



  • Entry level familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and government contracting processes.
  • Experience managing complex government client relationships.
  • Experience with common USG contracting software, and IT based tools.
  • Familiarity with common military firearms and ammunition systems both US and International.
  • Entry level Business Finance competency.
  • Experience with USG Procurement / Acquisition System Processes
  • Experience with USG requirements generation, budgeting, systems development process


Language Skills                                                     

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals, and government regulations.
  • Ability to maintain action logs, author reports, conduct formal business correspondence, present information and respond to questions from groups of USG program managers, engineers, quality managers, auditors, and user representatives.


Mathematical Skills                                                           

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as basic revenue and margin calculations, discounts, sales commissions, proportions, percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability                                                  

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills                                                     

  • Comfortable with MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • SAP experience preferred but not necessary
  • Common USG Contracting software tools.


Other Skills and Abilities                                                 

  • Must be a competent public speaker.
  • No criminal or character limitations that might prevent the individual from being allowed to handle firearms.


Other Qualifications                                                          

  • Role-relevant military experience at NCO level or higher.
  • Must have a high level of technical military competence, credibility and personal integrity.
  • 20-30% travel annually. Occasional long drives to regional production facilities required.
  • Capable of passing a USG Security Clearance Background Investigation.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Former military, must have certified honorable discharge.
  • Entry level Program Manager certification (USG or private equivalent acceptable).
  • Familiarity with relevant Defense Trade organizations helpful.
