  • Position Summary

    General Summary:


    Performs a range of directed tasks of a technical, scientific, or physical nature in an engineering and laboratory environment.   This position is located in Mona, Utah for Barnes Bullets.  

    Primary Responsibilities

    Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions):  


    Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of lab testing/operations techniques and processes. Capable of taking the next logical step without supervision. Competent with generating and presenting data in an easy to understand format. Competent in managing and coordinating an experimental run or series of tasks.

    Tool Usage: Performs basic tasks with standard tools and training provided by ROC; open to being trained on new methods. Use of equipment includes set-up and adjustment. Capable of mastering multiple tools, set-ups, methods including associated software.

    Indicators: Able to maintain safe working environment, follow all rules and guidelines, careful with data recording. Observant. Able to follow 5S (Safety, housekeeping) guidelines. Able to manage and coordinate EX runs on the Production floor in at least half of the VSO areas without supervision. Competent and capable in performing at least one of the following: Machinist on basic machining equipment (lathe/mill/finishing equipment), CAD modeling and detailing, or basic statistical analysis to include SPC. Capable of building prototypes (hand loading for ammo, firearm assembly).

    Scope of Responsibility: Performs Lab or test tasks; operation of test equipment, processing equipments, pilot facilities. Timescales are typically daily rather than weekly. Work is often subject to established routines. Multiple lab processes or test operations: scope often defined by work instructions and engineering/manufacturing directives. Timescales of up to one month to complete tasks. Errors can cause significant delays and rework over several products and projects.

    Leadership: Has strong work ethic, respects time of others, prompt, role model for safe working 
    conditions and maintains a clean workplace. Looks for ways to continuously improve tools and processes within his/her responsibility.


    Communication and Collaboration: Capable of maintaining detailed records in written form or databases. Engages in oral and written knowledge transfer when required; technical reports and findings. Observant and capable of communicating unusual observations (good and bad) to program managers and engineers.


    Behaviors: Completes tasks on time with high quality. Can be depended on to participate on teams and deliver results. Demonstrates ability to lead by example and teach methods to newer technicians. Extremely dependable in delivering what is promised.

    Level of Review: May have little day-to-day supervision. Tasks are reviewed daily or at project milestones as needed by engineering/manufacturing.

    Education and/or Experience:

    HS diploma. Comfortable with hands on operations of lab and processing equipment. 3 to 5 years of technician experience in a related field or set of operations. Firearms and ammunition experience a plus. 


    Language Skills:

    Ability to read work and interpret instructions in English. Ability to record observations and keep records of data as instructed.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to perform general mathematical operations and simple data manipulations as instructed.

    Other Skills and Abilities - Proficiency with CAD/CAM a plus. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite necessary.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, explosives, and vibration.

    The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Personal protective equipment to limit exposure to these environments will be provided.


    Safety Shoes meeting OSHA/ANSI Z-41 specifications are required for anyone working in the production department. Anyone working on the ammunition loading equipment or working in the Ballistic Lab are also required to have electrostatic dissipative (ESD) shoes.
