  • Position Summary

    This person leads all phases of new business development and capture for the Defense Division, focusing primarily on US and International military customers. As the primary lead for day to day customer contact within this channel, the Business Development Rep. is the Voice of the Customer to Remington cross functional resources that support new business capture. The BD rep utilizes strategic guidance from the VP, Professional Sales and the Director, Defense Division to construct and maintain an ongoing opportunity pipeline with key customers in the business area.  Through relationships with customers, business partners, and competitors alike, the BD representative is the storehouse of tactical market and competitive intelligence for the company. By clearly communicating the company growth strategy and working with Product Management, Marketing, R&D, Plant Operations, and Finance, the Business Development Rep guides delivery to customer commitments and shapes the strategic Defense marketplace.  Frequent travel to manufacturing facilities, customer offices, and Industry events ensures a clear view of the marketplace and the competitive landscape for the company.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Lead the Identification, Shaping, Pursuit, and Capture of growth opportunities with US and International military customers.
    • Work with Program Management and Executive Leadership to own and manage day to day communication with key Defense customers.
    • Guide the efforts of cross functional team members to capture new revenue and margin opportunities.
    • Provide Voice of the Customer input to help shape New Product Plans and Brand Strategies to ensure the company is aligned with market trends and end user requirements.
    • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and competitors alike to ensure clear, objective, timely market intelligence is communicated throughout the organization.
    • Act as a process guide to help Remington navigate military procurement channels.
    • Assist in generating quotations, authoring proposals, and creating customer event presentations.
    • Work independently and in coordination with others to conduct live fire firearms and ammunition demonstrations, product seminars and training and familiarization courses.
    • Act as product director for assigned products. Assemble complete firearm systems with ROC and industry partner products to satisfy customer needs.  Use customer input, extensive market research, personal knowledge and assistance/guidance from both R&D and Production engineers to realize suitable and effective product solutions.  Assist with sourcing, testing and data entry activities until the new/modified product is ready for sale.
    • Manage and guide the activities of international Defense Rep organizations in accordance with all company policies and US and International laws and regulations.
    • Support the planning and execution of US and International trade shows as assigned by Division Leadership.
    • Support Program Management and Executive Leadership as required to execute on customer commitments and drive growth.



    • The Business Development Representative must be comfortable dealing with both military end users, senior officers and procurement officials, individual corporate contributors, and senior corporate executives alike.
    • This individual must be able to achieve expected business outcomes despite long results cycles, ambiguity, uncertain or unclear customer communication, and at times in the absence of direct or timely leadership guidance.
    • A working knowledge of US DOD technology development, procurement, and contracting processes and regulations is a must.

    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


    Language Skills                        

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents, or governmental regulations.  
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, Us and International government customers, the media and the general public.


    Mathematical Skills                        

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as Discounts, Gross Margin, Commissions, Proportions, Percentages, Volume, Area, and Circumference.
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic Algebra and Geometry, Weights, and Measures.


    Reasoning Ability                        

    • Ability to solve both practical and abstract problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


    Computer Skills                        

    • Knowledgeable in MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)


    Other Skills and Abilities                        

    • Must be a competent public speaker and presenter.


    Other Qualifications                        

      • Substantial military experience at Senior NCO level or higher.
      • Must have a high level of technical military competence, credibility and personal integrity.
      • Helpful but not required to have had some exposure to law enforcement operations or procurement through employment, or schooling.
      • Essential that the person be familiar with safe and confident gun / ammunition handling as well as range operations.
      • Must be comfortable with frequent domestic and some international travel.  
      • Must be a US citizen with no criminal record.


    • Cannot be addicted to drugs or alcohol.


    • Ability to secure and maintain a US government industrial security clearance required.


    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    • For former military, must have certified honorable discharge.
