  • Position Summary

    The Business Development Manager for International Defense is responsible for defining and leading the company’s strategic growth in the International Military, Paramilitary and Law Enforcement marketplace. The Business Development Manager accomplishes this mission by identifying and creating business opportunities, developing pursuit strategies and managing cross functional teams to capture revenue and margin. As the primary lead for multi-level customer contact within this channel, the Business Development Manager is the “Voice of the Customer” to the cross functional resources that support new business capture. By clearly communicating Remington’s growth strategy and working with Product Management, Marketing, R&D, Plant Operations and Finance, the Business Development Manager guides delivery to customer commitments and strategically shapes the International Defense and Law Enforcement marketplace.  Frequent communication with the customer at their workplace as well as at Industry events ensures customer intimacy as well as a clear view of the marketplace and the competitive landscape for the company.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage the Identification, Shaping, Pursuit, and Capture of growth opportunities with International Military, Law Enforcement and Paramilitary customers.
    • Work with Program Management and Executive Leadership to own and manage day to day communication with key Defense representatives and customers.  
    • Act as a process guide to help Remington navigate International procurement channels.
    • Guide the efforts of cross functional team members to capture new revenue and margin opportunities.
    • Manage the development, presentation, and approval, of the business area’s contribution to the company’s strategic growth plan.
    • Manage the development, presentation, and approval of the business area’s contribution to the company’s operating budget.
    • Provide “Voice of the Customer” input to help shape New Product Plans and Brand Strategies to ensure the company is aligned with market trends and end user requirements.
    • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners and competitors alike to ensure clear, objective, timely market intelligence is communicated throughout the organization.
    • Generate quotations and assist in authoring proposals and creating customer event presentations.
    • Manage and guide the activities of International Defense Representative organizations (Brokers/Agents) in accordance with all company policies and US and International laws and regulations. Ensure their needs are met, they are adequately representing Remington products and are regularly seeking new opportunities within their nations or territories.
    • Support the planning and execution of US and International trade shows as assigned by Division Leadership.
    • Work independently and in coordination with others to conduct live fire firearms and ammunition demonstrations, product seminars and training / familiarization courses.
    • Act as product director for assigned products. Assemble complete firearm systems with ROC and industry partner products to satisfy specific customer needs.  Use customer input, extensive market research, personal knowledge and assistance/guidance from both R&D and Production engineers to realize suitable and effective product solutions.  Assist with sourcing, testing and data entry activities until the new/modified product is ready for sale.
    • Support Program Management and Executive Leadership as required to execute on customer commitments and drive growth.

    • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
    • Or two to four years related experience and/or training
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


    Language Skills                        

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical documents, or governmental regulations.  
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, US and International government customers, the media, and the general public.


    Mathematical Skills                        

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as Discounts, Gross Margin, Commissions, Proportions, Percentages, Volume, Area, and Circumference.
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic Algebra and Geometry, Weights, and Measures.


    Reasoning Ability                        

    • Ability to solve both practical and abstract problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


    Computer Skills                        

    • Knowledgeable in MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point)


    Other Skills and Abilities                        

    • Must be a competent public speaker and presenter.


    Other Qualifications                        

    • Substantial government agency sales experience strongly desired.
    • Must have a high level of technical competence with firearms and ammunition.
    • A reputation for credibility and personal integrity.
    • Substantial experience in military operations or procurement through either employment or schooling.
    • Fluency in a major International language or familiarity with several such languages is desired (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic, German).
    • Essential that the person be familiar with safe and confident gun / ammunition handling as well as range operations.
    • Must be comfortable with frequent international travel.  
    • Must be a US citizen with no criminal record.
    • Cannot be addicted to drugs or alcohol.
    • Ability to secure and maintain a US government industrial security clearance required.




    • The Business Development Manager must be comfortable dealing with International Military, Paramilitary, and Law Enforcement end-users, senior officers, procurement officials, individual corporate contributors, and senior corporate executives alike.
    • This individual must be able to achieve expected business outcomes despite long results cycles, ambiguity, uncertain or unclear customer communication, and at times in the absence of direct or timely leadership guidance.


    • A working knowledge of US Government and International government technology development, procurement, contracting processes and regulations is a must.

    • For former military, must have certified honorable discharge.
