  • Position Summary

    Plans, designs and develops products with emphasis on ergonomic (human) factors, aesthetics and styling, marketing considerations and manufacturability, and prepares designs and specifications of products for production.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Create and drive product designs and product user interface from initial concepts, through design completion, and into manufacturing.
    • Prepare design sketches, blueprints, detailed drawings or computer-aided designs to demonstrate potential products or work on enhancing an existing product to make it more appealing and user-friendly to consumers.
    • Fabricate models using samples and/or digital content
    • Create visual and functional prototypes and present designs for approval.
    • Collaborate with and utilize input from Production, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Research and Development personnel to continue further concept exploration and design refinement.
    • Research and present market trends, product limitations, manufacturing and material trends, and consumer needs to help determine design direction for products.
    • Evaluates design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
    • Provide leadership of CAD and drawing standards, file structures & states, and other data management assignments.  Able to assist the organization with all facets of CAD from creating complex 3D surfaces to simple detail drawings for engineers.
    • May be required to participate in product testing.

    Model Building Skills

    Ability to render drawings and create physical mockups and models of concepts and ideas for review.  

     

    Mathematical Skills                        

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    Reasoning Ability                        

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    Computer Skills                        

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have expert knowledge of Solidworks CAD system, design and surfacing specific software tools, familiarity with mold filling & analysis, photorealistic rendering, exploded views, and visual animations. 
    • Good knowledge of CAD data/file management (Solidworks PDM), workflow design & development.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Illustrator.

     

    Other Qualifications

    • The ability to present new product concepts via digital and traditional means; comfort with using computer models as a vehicle for discussion and representation of design intent to engineering.
    • Strong overall problem solving and presentation skills are a must.
    • Integrates findings and concepts, and sketches design ideas.
    • Creative thinker.
    • An understanding of human factors and ergonomics is a plus.
    • Strong work ethic and enjoy working in an extremely fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business (i.e., sales, operations, administration, and marketing).
    • Ability to manage tasks unsupervised.
