  • Position Summary

    Position Summary:

    Researches, plans, designs, develops, and implements new products, processes and systems into the sporting and/or defense related arms and ammunition markets.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Primary Responsibilities:


    • Technical Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of firearms and/or ammunition products, processes, and related engineering designs/function.  Capable of design modification with minimal supervision. Capable of identifying appropriate analysis and tests required to arrive at fact-based decisions.  Comfortable with participation and interpretation of results from advanced tools, including Design of Experiments and CAE (Finite Element Analysis, Simulation).  Able to design appropriate validation experiments using test lab equipment, CAD modelling, and FEA simulation. Proficient in statistical methods of data analysis.  Capable of producing unbiased interpretation of results using facts (data), double checking and summarizing for the team. Capable of coordinating prototype builds and interfacing with external vendors.  
    • Scope of Responsibility: Role typically as an entry level technical team member capable of handling sub-system complexity but can be technical lead for a minor project.  Capable of diagnosing and resolving functional and endurance issues.


    Leadership: Has strong work ethic, respects time of others, prompt, role model for safe working conditions and maintains a clean workplace.  Able to plan work, be accountable for both personal and team results, share success with teammates, respects all business partners.   Able to work up/down/across functions to deliver value and drive for results.     • Communication and Collaboration: Capable of generating standard reports and documents supporting design validation and/or design changes.  Can articulate perspective in a concise and precise manner. Capable of structuring communications to support validation of design in a meaningful way.  Able to communicate test requirements to test lab. Able to review product requirements with product management and suppliers to avoid non-value added re-work
    • Behaviors: Completes tasks on time with high quality.   Works well with peers and team members. Extremely dependable in delivering what is promised. Displays a bias for action and performance in the work area.  Routinely applies and encourages new employees in the application of processes, practices and company values.


    • Level of Review: May have little day-to-day supervision. Tasks are reviewed for technical judgement, accuracy, quality, innovation by Tech Lead or Program Manager. May be asked to support assignment of projects across the P&L segments.  With P&L leadership being responsible for setting priorities within the P&L program portfolio.
    • Reporting up to P&L and ROC leadership.

    BS degree in Engineering or Science (i.e. Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials engineering, Physics) from a four-year accredited or nationally recognized college or university and 1-3 years relevant experience; entry Level MSc, PhD.  Firearms and ammunition experience a plus.



    Ability to read work and interpret instructions in English.  Ability to record observations and keep records of data as instructed.



    Ability to perform advanced mathematical operations such as exponents, logarithms and apply those methods to analyses involving frequency distributions, reliability, analysis of variance and factor analysis.



    Proficiency with CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, mechanical simulation or aptitude for learning.  Proficient with Microsoft Office suite necessary. Program management skills a plus.
