  • Position Summary

    General Summary:


    Assists R&D Engineers with daily activities and projects. This is a part-time position working up to 30 hours per week. 

    Primary Responsibilities

    Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions)


    The following functions are performed under the direct supervision and oversight of the employee’s assigned engineering supervisor:


    • Assist production in the resolution of manufacturing problems to maintain production schedules. 


    • Analyzes products, equipment specifications, and performance requirements, to determine designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing processes. Work with design engineers to resolve designs to better fit available manufacturing methods. 


    • Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering cost, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.


    • Develop process records and supporting information for new and existing products, so that the process is controllable, and the model drawing is executed as designed.


    • Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations as needed.


    • Assists in the development of tool, gage, and fixture design for manufacturing operations.


    • Access technical information (i.e. process records, model drawings, SOP’s, tool and fixture drawings) as needed to support manufacturing operations.


    • Continually work to develop process improvements and enhancements to maximize production and quality.


    • Assists manufacturing in the building of prototype products.


    • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitation which effect long-range plant and product engineering planning.
    • Must demonstrate ability to understand supplier capability and specialties in the manufacture components and tooling to required specifications.
    • Must possess a working knowledge of machining, metalworking principles.
    • Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or products. Plans and develops experimental test programs.
    • Provide technical assistance to component and tooling suppliers.

    Skills and Education Required

    Qualifications, Educational Skills and Experience:


    Must be at least a junior in college, and enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent program. 


    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general, technical procedures. Ability to write reports and procedures. Ability to effectively present information to top management.


    Initiative and Ingenuity


    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, explosives, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Personal protective equipment to limit exposure to these environments will be provided.


    Employees may encounter hazardous wastes during their work.  Hazardous wastes are to be handled appropriately; including applicable use of PPE, placement into compatible containers, container labeling and marking; etc.  Additionally, wastes may need to be transported to/from satellite accumulation areas to 90-day accumulation area; via dolly, forklift, etc. All employees working with, handling, or managing hazardous wastes will receive annual RCRA training. Those employees preparing waste for shipment will receive additional trainings (DOT).
