  • Position Summary

    General Summary:

    Researches, plans, designs, develops, and implements (into Production) new products, processes and systems into the sporting or defense related arms and ammunition markets.  Proficient professional. Performs varied assignments of an advanced engineering nature requiring full use and application of engineering / scientific / technical methods. Uses fact-based decision making in analysis and design. 

    Primary Responsibilities

    Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions):

     

    • Technical Knowledge: Very good understanding of products and processes and related engineering designs/function.  Understands some advanced principles. Capable of advanced design modification with minimal supervision.  Capable of identifying appropriate analyses and tests required to arrive at fact-based decisions.  
    • Tool Usage: Comfortable with and able to use advanced tools, including Design of Experiments and CAE (Finite Element Analysis, Simulation) to meet objectives - anticipate and/or identify interactions.  
    • Indicators: Able to design appropriate validation experiments using the lab, range, FEA simulations (dynamic).  Proficient in statistical methods - basic level. Capable of producing unbiased interpretation of results using facts (data), double checking, and summarizing for the team.  Failure analysis, microstructural analysis. Recommends/reviews potential mfg. processes and materials selection.
    • Scope of Responsibility: Role typically as a more senior technical team member capable of handling sub-system complexity but can be technical lead for a minor project. Capable of diagnosing and resolving functional and endurance issues. Errors can cause moderate delay to product development schedules. Could have serious impact on meeting specific customer program deliverables. Objectives are defined and approach is negotiated. Work is generally not supervised in detail. Guidance usually sought by exception.

    Level of Review May have little day-to-day supervision. Tasks are reviewed for technical judgement, accuracy, quality, innovation by Tech Lead or Program Manager.

    Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:

    BS degree in Engineering or Science (i.e. Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials engineering, Physics) from a four year accredited or nationally recognized college or university and 2-5 years relevant experience ; entry Level MSc, PhD.  Firearms and ammunition experience a plus.

     

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read work and interpret instructions in English.  Ability to record observations and keep records of data as instructed.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to perform advanced mathematical operations such as exponents, logarithms and apply those methods to analyses involving frequency distributions, reliability, analysis of variance and factor analysis.

     

    Other Skills and Activities:

    Proficiency with CAD/CAM, finite element analysis, mechanical simulation or aptitude for learning.  Proficient with Microsoft Office suite necessary. Program management skills a plus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, explosives, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Personal protective equipment to limit exposure to these environments will be provided.

     

    Employees may encounter hazardous wastes during the course of their work.  Hazardous wastes are to be handled appropriately; including applicable use of PPE, placement into compatible containers, container labeling and marking; etc.  Additionally, wastes may need to be transported to/from satellite accumulation areas to 90-day accumulation area; via dolly, forklift, etc. All employees working with, handling, or managing hazardous wastes will receive annual RCRA training. Those employees preparing waste for shipment will receive additional trainings (DOT).
